Athena : The Modern Goddess

Athena

This is a modern representation of Athena a Greek goddess. She was known for her wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, mathematics, strength, war strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill in ancient Greek religion and mythology. She was considered the protector of her city.
Her face structure and posture shows her confidence and independence. This is because I admire a woman who is comfortable and confident as she is. In our society people believe that women are dependent on men and their husbands but they way Athena carries herself shows her strength and independence as a woman. She stands up for herself and not only protects herself but also her city.
I choose to make her skin a tan colour as it is similar to my skin completion. This is cause I feel that a Goddess should qualities that are similar to me because this creates a more personal bond. I also did not want to adhere to the stereotype of white people are superior thus Gods should be fair skinned.
Her clothes are not old fashioned nor too modern. It is a long flowing tube dress. The blue and green shades symbolize her calmness inspite her being a goddess of war, she strategizes with a calm mind to bring about a fair and just solution. The sea shells symbolize her vast sea of knowledge and numerous skills. Her minimal jewellery shows her royalty and superiority in a subtle manner unlike the Indian Goddesses who wear large amounts of gold.
Her boots symbolize her determination to overcome any difficulty that she may face by trampling over it with great skill like a cowboy who uses his boots to control his horse with great skill.
Her spear is sharp weapon like her mind and it also helps her ward off evil. The shield helps protect herself and also symbolizes her as the protector. Her visor has Greek symbols and letters that shows her great knowledge, wisdom and skill in ancient Greek religion and mythology.
Thus is my representation of Athena who possesses all admirable qualities of an ideal Goddess in todays modern world.
